Publishing on the Web
Many Internet service providers are letting their customers put up their own information on the World Wide Web. This means that you can publish your writing or art, or just other interesting things on the Internet that you have found. If your provider lets you do this, consider that hundreds of thousands of people might look at your work. How do you want to present yourself? What kind of things would you say to perfect strangers that you think they might find interesting or useful? Should you include graphics or just text? Should you have someone else edit your work so that it reads better? As you can see, publishing on the Worlds Wide Web involves difficult decisions and should not be taken lightly.
Unfortunately, to use the graphical parts of the Web, you currently need a SLIP or PPP account, or a direct connection to the Internet. People with character-based connections can still see the text of the Web using a character-based Web client called lynx, but it just isn't the same. Popular graphic-based Web clients includes Mosaic and Netscape.
In the future, even more services will be available on the Web. Companies are creating Web clients that include user authentication, encryption, and many other advanced features. Given how much press the Web is getting, it will be the hotbed for Internet development for many years.
